Mardoeka de Kruyk has come from
Holland to help with an election cam-
paign on the other side of the world.
Ms de Kruyk is one of several over-
seas volunteers working for the
Green Party on its national and Wel-
lington Central campaigns.
I've never really done anything in
politics before and I don't really
know much about it, '' she said.
I'm becoming more interested in
it. It's really important to be involved
Ms de Kruyk came to New Zealand
as part of Aiesec, a non-political,
worldwide programme that offers
tertiary students the opportunity to

come here. They said I could try to
come to New Zealand, but it would

candidate James Shaw is an Aiesec
alumni, so turned to the organisation

skilled New Zealanders, he said.
We have about 250 to 300
volunteers. We have IT specialists,
programme managers, branding con-
sultants -- they come from all walks
Ms de Kruyk said she enjoyed Wel-
lington's natural beauty and was get-
ting used to the hills.
Wellington is on a harbour and
you have a green belt. We don't have
that in The Netherlands. It's flat and
Arriving at the start of the Rugby
World Cup was interesting, she said.
I've become a real fan of rugby.
I saw almost every game.
My favourite [All Black] is Piri
[Weepu]. He always looks so serious
when he's going to kick the ball.''
